Theme Editor Basics
The Shopify theme editor is where you customize Elle. Here's how to navigate it.
Opening the Theme Editor
- Go to Online Store > Themes in your Shopify admin
- Click Customize next to the Elle theme
Understanding the Interface
Left Sidebar
The left sidebar shows your page structure:
- Sections - Building blocks of your page (Hero, Featured Collection, etc.)
- Header - Your site header with logo and navigation
- Footer - Your site footer with links and contact info
Click any section to edit its settings.
Preview Area
The center shows a live preview of your changes. Changes appear instantly as you edit.
Device Preview
Use the icons at the top to preview on:
- Desktop
- Mobile
Adding Sections
- Click Add section in the left sidebar
- Browse available sections
- Click a section to add it to your page
- Drag to reorder sections
Editing Sections
- Click a section in the left sidebar
- Adjust settings in the panel that appears
- Add blocks within sections where available
- Use the color scheme dropdown to change section colors
Removing Sections
- Click the section you want to remove
- Scroll to the bottom of the settings panel
- Click Remove section
Saving Your Work
Click Save in the top right corner to save all changes. Your changes will go live immediately if the theme is published.
Page Templates
Use the dropdown at the top of the editor to switch between page templates:
- Home page - Your store's main landing page
- Products - Individual product pages
- Collections - Collection listing pages
- Blog posts - Article pages
- Pages - Standard content pages
Each template can have its own unique section layout.
