Browser Compatibility

Elle is tested and supported on:

Unsupported Browsers

Older browsers like Internet Explorer are not supported. Users on these browsers may experience:

  • Broken layouts
  • Missing features
  • JavaScript errors

Solution: Recommend users update to a modern browser.

Clearing Browser Cache

Many display issues are resolved by clearing your cache.

Chrome

  1. Click the three-dot menu
  2. Go to More tools > Clear browsing data
  3. Select "Cached images and files"
  4. Click Clear data

Safari

  1. Go to Safari > Preferences > Privacy
  2. Click Manage Website Data
  3. Remove data for your store domain

Firefox

  1. Click the menu button
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security
  3. Under Cookies and Site Data, click Clear Data

Edge

  1. Click the three-dot menu
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services
  3. Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear

Private/Incognito Mode

Test issues in private browsing mode to rule out extensions and cache:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N (Cmd+Shift+N on Mac)
  • Safari: Cmd+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on Mac)
  • Edge: Ctrl+Shift+N

If the issue doesn't occur in private mode, the cause is likely:

  • Browser extensions
  • Cached data
  • Cookies

Browser Extensions

Extensions can interfere with theme functionality:

Common Problematic Extensions

  • Ad blockers
  • Script blockers
  • VPN extensions
  • Theme/display modifiers

Testing

  1. Disable all extensions temporarily
  2. Refresh your store
  3. Test the problematic feature
  4. Re-enable extensions one by one to identify the culprit

Mobile Device Issues

Responsive Display Problems

If your store looks wrong on mobile:

  1. Test in the theme editor's mobile preview
  2. Test on actual mobile devices
  3. Clear mobile browser cache
  4. Check section mobile-specific settings

Touch Interactions Not Working

  1. Clear mobile browser cache
  2. Try a different mobile browser
  3. Ensure JavaScript is enabled
  4. Check for iOS/Android specific settings

Viewport Issues

If content extends beyond the screen:

  1. Check for very long words without breaks
  2. Look for fixed-width elements
  3. Review image settings

Operating System Considerations

Mac vs Windows Font Rendering

Fonts may appear slightly different:

  • Normal variance in font rendering
  • Ensure fonts are web-safe or properly loaded
  • Test on both platforms if possible

High-DPI/Retina Displays

Images may look blurry on retina screens if:

  • Image resolution is too low
  • Upload images at 2x intended display size

Dark Mode

Some users have system-wide dark mode:

  • Elle should handle this gracefully
  • Test with dark mode enabled
  • Check contrast in dark mode

JavaScript Errors

If interactive features don't work:

Checking for Errors

  1. Open browser developer tools (F12 or right-click > Inspect)
  2. Go to the Console tab
  3. Look for red error messages
  4. Note the error message for support

Common Causes

  • Theme app conflicts
  • Invalid custom code
  • Network blocking scripts

Cookies

Elle uses cookies for:

  • Cart functionality
  • Dismissed announcements
  • Recently viewed products

Cookie Issues

If features aren't remembering state:

  1. Check cookies are enabled
  2. Don't use "block all cookies" settings
  3. Privacy browsers may clear cookies frequently

Network Issues

Slow Loading

  • Check internet connection
  • Try a different network
  • Clear DNS cache

Assets Not Loading

  • Check if your region blocks certain CDNs
  • Try a VPN to test
  • Verify Shopify status (status.shopify.com)

Reporting Browser Issues

When reporting a browser-specific issue:

  1. Note the browser name and version
  2. Note the operating system
  3. Screenshot the problem
  4. Include browser console errors
  5. Test in private mode first
